After having talked about the Coonawarra Bin 128 in the previous review I thought it was best to discuss another of the Shiraz that we tried - The Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz.
The fruit was selected from vineyards across South Australia including the Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and of course the Barossa Valley.
After experiencing the cool climate 2008 Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz, which I thought was very good, I was much more at home with the warm climate full flavoured Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz. The 2007 growing season also challenged the viticluturists with some searing heat and low rainfall but they triumphed again with good grapes that are now showing through in the bottle.
The nose shows old oak rather than new and there is a musty aroma that sticks in your nasal cavity. There are definite dark berries in there as well. The wine gracefully makes its way across the palate in an even and very well balanced manner. Your tastebuds are reminded of the dark berries smelt in the glass, with a dose of chocolate and the impact of old oak coming through. This wine would suggest more age if I had tasted it blind.
The Bin 28 was, of all the wines, the one that I would drink with friends that enjoy good wine. It just brought a smile to my face and I immediately thought of my Waitersfriend brothers Shaun & Lee. It is $22.15 + GST wholesale & will most likely be sold in bottle shops for around the $30 mark. Whichever way you buy this it will represent very good value for money. I bought 6 to share with my friends at the impending naming ceremony for my new born daughter. A great wine to celebrate a great day.

It’s 2007 vintage, 2008 not released yet.
