AUSTRALIA’S TOP YOUNG CHEF, WAITER & RESTAURATEUR ANNOUNCED

During the week the Electrolux Appetite for Excellence 2010 national winners were announced at an exclusive reception held at the Electrolux Showcase, Sydney, attended by Australia’s leading chefs, restaurateurs and food industry luminaries. 

 Waitersfriend sends out a big congrats to all who competed and the winners on the day!

The 2010 Electrolux Appetite for Excellence winners across three award categories are: 

Electrolux Young Chef

In an industry first, some of the country’s most promising restaurants have banded together to help promote the success of our young culinary rising stars.  The inaugural Whet Your Appetite program will showcase the skills of the talented young chefs, young waiters and young restaurateurs who make up the finalists in this year’s Electrolux Appetite for Excellence Awards. Lending their support to this pool of junior talent are some of the highly acclaimed Awards’ judges who have also signed up to participate.

BEST OF THE BEST TO COMPETE FOR TOP AWARD

After an intense round of culinary competition, the Electrolux Appetite for Excellence Young Chef and Young Waiter national finalists have been whittled down by half to the best of the best.  The final 14 will now go on to compete for top honours.

Appetite for Excellence 2010 Finalists Announced

Following intense scrutiny by a panel of Australia’s culinary heavyweights, some of the country’s most passionate young talent has been shortlisted to continue in the 2010 Electrolux Appetite for Excellence Awards in three categories: Electrolux Young Chef, Electrolux Young Waiter and Electrolux Young Restaurateur. Now in its sixth year, the program is dedicated to educating and nurturing emerging hospitality industry professionals and raising awareness of the career opportunities this vibrant industry offers.

Peter Gilmore Joins Excellence Awards Panel

Quay’s multi-hatted chef Peter Gilmore - whose skill has steered Quay to Best Restaurant status over the past few years - has joined the highly regarded Electrolux Appetite for Excellence judging panel for 2010.  Peter will be judging the Young Restaurateur category along with Chef & owner of Universal Christine Manfield and founders Lucy Allon and Luke Mangan.    Another new addition to the growing list of culinary greats associated with these Awards is Melbourne chef Andrew McConnell (Cutler & Co, Cumulus Inc) who joins as one of the Young Chef state judges, VIC.

Electrolux Appetite for Excellence 2010

Founded in 2005 by Luke Mangan and Lucy Allen the Electrolux Appetite for Excellence program is a fantastic source of inspiration and encouragement for young up and coming hospitality professionals.  The press release below outlines this year’s program and announces the judging panel which is made up of “some of Australia’s most successful chefs, restaurateurs, and industry leaders”.
