Waitersfriend recently attended a wine tasting for FESQ showcasing the spring portfolio and was fortunate enough to try some pretty special wines, none more exciting than the Ben Glaetzer ‘Amon Ra’ Shiraz. While we were there we got wind of another tasting for the Addley Clarke portfolio down the road at Emmanuel Sakellarakis’ restaurant 1889 Enoteca.

Dinner with Geoff Merrill and a few million stars

Food and Beverage Manager of Links Hope Island, Mark Wilson, has certainly raised the bar for wine dinners in South East Queensland.  Nay, this wasn’t merely a wine dinner but a grand event centred on fabulous food, superb wine and breathtaking entertainment.

The Holdfast Hotel

After a lengthy refurbishment things are settling in at the Holdfast Hotel. It was looking quite the part when Waitersfriend called in for a chat with venue manager Floyd O’Toole.  Floyd looks a little jaded, as does any manager who’s had his hotel pulled down, then rebuilt around him.  But as the last few glitches are being ironed out, he manages a smile as he pans a look across the stylish new dining room and tells how all the anguish has been worth while.

Waitersfriend meets with Geoff Merrill

Geoff Merrill was relaxing at Hope Island Golf Club when Waitersfriend caught up with him. Geoff recently attended the ‘Tastes of Coolum’ golf event at the Hyatt Coolum.  Some of the hottest names in the wine world attended including Robert O’Callaghan (Rockford Wines), Ian Hollick (Hollick), Scott Collett (Woodstock) and Robin Brockett (Scotchmans Hill)  as well as several up & coming wine labels including Chalk Hill, Laughing Jack, & Dog Ridge among others.

Robert O’Callaghan

Waitersfriend recently caught up with Robert O’Callaghan, owner & wine maker at Rockford Wines.

We brushed over many things but it is worth noting that Robert feels very confident that the recently finished 09 vintage is going to be a cracker.  He said, “..we will know more in twelve months but at this stage it is looking very, very good.”  The Clare Valley also had a sensational vintage.
