The Pot Food and Wine - Adelaide

The last thing Carlos, our French host said to us was, “anything is possible at The Pot” and I’m sure it is.

For me The Pot defines the phrase - ‘romance of a restaurant’, and I’m not talking about sitting there with your loved one, staring into each others eyes, holding hands across the table and referring to one another by cutesy little nick names.  I’m talking about inspired people that are determined on delivering a great product.  I’m talking about the feeling you get as you stroll through the door that everything from that moment on is going to be about [read more...]

Aria - Brisbane

Waitersfriend recently dined at Matt Moran’s new Aria Restaurant in Brisbane.  We had heard a lot about it before we went but most of it from a parochial local crowd whom I suspect may have been influenced by the fact that Aria comes from the arch nemesis and number one rival, Sydney.

It wasn’t that long ago that Brisbane and QLD were the butt of every redneck joke in NSW.  In fact, after decades of snubbing it is only in recent times that the Good Food Guide has even bothered supporting the food & wine scene that is now making a [read more...]

Jolleys Boathouse - Adelaide

You’re in the city but you’re not in the city.  You’re on the banks of the Torrens River and it seems miles away from the hustling, bustling streets of Adelaide’s CBD.  You’re also at Jolleys Boathouse - it’s one of those great locations in Australia where some lucky bastard has the fortune to hold a liquor licence for a premises which contains a commercial kitchen and a dining room of around 100 seats.

I love going to Jolleys, especially during the day, I can just sit there for hours sipping wine and eating food as I watch red faced joggers pass [read more...]

Nu Nu - Palm Cove

I always knew I was going to Nu Nu.  Even before I knew I was going to Palm Cove I was going to Nu Nu. So as soon as I was checked into the resort, I checked out Nu Nu.  My partner was convinced I was way over excited.  But I’d read the reviews and checked out the website and I knew my eagerness wasn’t unwarranted.

It had been around 9 years since I’d lived in the resort town and I was keen to take a stroll along memory lane, aka Williams Esplanade.  Some things had changed while some remained the [read more...]

East Taste Chinese- Adelaide

I was first introduced to East Taste in 2003.

We had found out about it in the usual way - a friend of a friend had recommended it to a friend’s friend, you know how it goes. I was living and working in the Barossa Valley at the time, and it quickly became our Sunday night hangout.  If we could get rid of the Sunday crowd from our own restaurant (10.45pm seemed to be about the cut off) we could make it to Gouger street in time for our Asian food fix.

The chef I was working with at the time had [read more...]
